Maria Lena Medina
“Live, Love, and Create your life”! Inspiration comes from the cool sunrises, warm sunsets, bright colorful flowers, the light from the sun after a thunderstorm, and patterns in architecture. I always look for beauty in anything that surrounds me which adds joy and fuels my love for art and to create it.
My love of art started from an early age as I watched my mother use colored pencils in her figure drawings of women. I am a mixed media artist and I enjoy creating abstract and realistic paintings, collages, one of a kind artist books/journals, notebooks, and art bags. I paint vibrant colors on canvas, paper, and paper towels. I collage my painted papers on canvas, notebooks, and other substrates. Collaging to me is like painting with paper. I drip, splatter, spray and use bold strokes of paint that is exhilarating, jubilant, funky, and eclectic. I create layers of colors, symbols, patterns, scribbles, and doodles. I use asemic writing and my handwriting as a way of self-expression, in a form of a favorite song, or my deepest thoughts. I continue creating until the art emerges.
