Vincent Stark Artist Reception
Time & Location
About the event
This show features paintings that are snapshots of daily life as captured by the “unobserved observer.” Vince’s painting shows people doing their daily work and going about their everyday tasks. His "snapshots" are most often captured from his seated perspective. In essence, the work in this show is a series of portraits of people caught unaware. Vince works in watercolor. creating his current art in small sketchbooks. The art is then reproduced as larger art prints to complete each piece in its' intended final rendition.
Vince came to this art in a most difficult way. After a motorcycle accident in 2007 left him paralyzed and permanently in a wheelchair, he put his creative energy into watercolor painting. Often when one’s “position” in the world has been changed, their perspective changes as well. Prior to his injury Vince was involved in many of the artisan trades, including blacksmithing, woodworking, leather, and building horse riding tack and equipment. Vince also spent many years as a bass player and vocalist in several local bands. This creative energy has not left him, merely taken on a new medium.
Vince Stark was born in Butte County, South Dakota and grew up on the family farm and ranch. He has lived in the Black Hills for most of his life. For the past 30 years he has called Whitewood, SD home. He lives there with his wife Kris and their two dachshunds, Ross and Clancy.
Vince enjoys the organic, transparent quality of watercolors. As a child Vince was influenced by illustrations in his Dad's collection of magazines. The illustration styles of the 50’s through the 80’s are still visible in his art.
